What is the Retailtech Hub?

We believe that young innovative tech companies hold great potential and deserve their own dedicated program to connect them with established corporations. Retailtech Hub provides startups with a platform to cover exactly this need, to receive mentoring, workshops, office space, (optional) capital & access to our european commerce/retail network. For young innovative companies addressing the commerce/ retail value chain, Retailtech Hub offers excellent resources and opportunities.

What makes the Retailtech Hub different from other programs across the world?

We don’t see ourselves as a corporate accelerator, but rather as an international innovation platform for retail, where future-thinking corporations and eager startups can meet and meaningfully engage. This innovation platform gives startups and corporations a sense of belonging and helps them to test their products and jointly receive valuable customer feedback from pilots. Optionally, we are able to open our Silicon Valley Network by Plug and Play Accelerator to our participants.

What type of companies is the Retailtech Hub looking for?

Retailtech Hub is looking for innovative companies with a product addressing anything that innovates or disrupts the current retail value chain, especially in the fields of (a) customer experience, (b) business operations and (c) new business models.

We do not accelerate B2C products, but are happy to connect startups with our procurement colleagues responsible for innovative products. Also e-commerce startups which are close to our core business are excluded.

Where is the program located?

Retailtech Hub is located at one of Munich’s top startup clusters at “Neue Balan” (Balanstraße 73, 81541 Munich) with direct access to the Metro line U2 “Karl-Preis-Platz”as well as the Bus line 54  and a 15 min walk to Munich Ostbahnhof.

How long does a batch last?

Each batch takes place over a period of around 12 weeks. In case more time is required to conduct a joint pilot, individual solutions will be found.

Who facilitates the innovation platform?

MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group facilitates the innovation platform in partnership with Plug and Play Tech Center from Silicon Valley. Additional corporate partners are joining the program continuously and try to facilitate pilot opportunities to the Retailtech Hub startups.

What does success look like?

First of all, we want to lift your startup to the next level, improve operations, shape your product and scale your business. The heart of the program is generally an (optional) piloting opportunity with one of the MediaMarktSaturn Sales Lines or one of our corporate partners. Within the last weeks of the batch, we will intensively prepare you for our demo day. This is when you pitch your startup to well-known VCs, experienced business angels and our partners and mentors to secure a follow-up funding.

What sort of infrastructure does the Retailtech Hub provide to the supported startups?

Retailtech Hub provides state of the art office space in one of Munich’s top startup clusters, including any other infrastructure such as meeting spaces, event area, kitchen, meeting rooms of different sizes and of course internet access. All drinks and coffee are free.

How can we apply for the Retailtech Hub program?

Please use the typeform link to apply. You can tell us about your team, your product, and the market you are in. The questions are geared to understand both the business and the team. We might contact you to get more information. Then, shortlisted candidates will be invited to pitch on stage in Munich in front of our jury (Selection Day). We are looking forward to receiving your application.

Does my company fit all the criteria for the application?

To match our minimum requirements you should have a legal entity, a MVP / prototype / ready to pilot and a promising and complete team.

How do you evaluate applications?

We evaluate applications on the basis of several objective criteria. Additionally, various stakeholders with expert knowledge are involved in the evaluation process and will challenge your business idea. We guarantee that every application gets our full attention.

Do we get informed whether our application is moving forward?

We try to review your application as quickly as possible and try to keep you posted.

We invite applicants in time to join our Selection Day. A few days after Selection Day you will already receive the information whether you made it into the program.

Will founders outside of Germany/Europe be accepted?

Yes, absolutely! We are looking for applications from all over the world.

The program is entirely in English, and all our speakers have international profiles.

Is on-site presence mandatory?

No, only certain elements of the program have a mandatory presence. You will receive detailed information about that once you have joined the program. However, we encourage startups to actively be part of our community on-site and participate in the various events.

Where will I live while in Munich?

We provide coworking space for free but we unfortunately don’t have any discount for apartments around the office. Our advice is simply to use Airbnb or join relevant facebook groups.

Does it cost money to participate in the Retailtech Hub program?

No, we do not charge any fees.

Do you help with the entrepreneurship visa or company incorporation?

We will link you up with the relevant authorities to settle your visa.

What visas are required for international founders?

You will be provided with a letter of endorsement from Retailtech Hub which can be used as part of your visa application process. Of course your own specific visa situation will be determined by your own country and personal information. We will do everything we can to assist you with this process.

When is the application deadline?

You can apply any time. We will review your application and in given case pick the right batch for you. Please note that the application review can take a while longer once the batch has started.
